Shared plans are Linux based only. No shared plans on windows base are offered at this time. The Hatchling plan is one step below their most basic plan, the Baby plan. Hatchling is like the Baby plan, except it can only support hosting for one domain name instead of hosting for unlimited domains. The Baby plan is their most basic plan. The Baby plan can support hosting for unlimited domains, making it a better value than the Hatchling. The Baby plan has less e-commerce features than a Business plan, but can still be used to create an online store. The Business plan is their complete e-commerce solution for shared hosting. The Business plan can support hosting for unlimited domains. The Business plan includes more e-commerce features than a Baby plan, like a private SSL and a toll-free support number of your own, making it the perfect solution for creating an online store. To use the toll-free number, you provide an existing number (US and Canada only) where VOIPo can forward the calls.
There is no bandwidth limit with their shared hosting plans. There are other limits such as process limit, connection limit, inode limits, etc. HostGator allows a maximum of 25 simultaneous MySQL connections per cPanel on shared servers. Shared and Reseller servers only allow 100,000 files per cPanel. If you expect to hit these servers’ resource limits – you can go with a VPS or dedicated server package.
Hostgator offers both Windows and Linux Based VPS packages. What comes as an inconvinience is that they can be paid only on monthly base and there are no discounts for longer term contracts. Virtuozzo Power Panel is included but cPanel or Plesk have a separate cost. VPS is best for installing custom software, creating custom configurations, sending emails without the shared server limitations, and hosting live streaming media.
With Hostgator’s dedicated server, you have the entire physical server and and all resources (without sharing with other users).
Hostgator supports its customers in many ways with extreme courtesy and of them is by offering free data transfer for your main domain. Free content transfers are only offered with new orders and upgrades but this is quite sufficient for everybody.
